Here comes the bride

Less than a week until my cousin's wedding.  I'm excited and nervous at the same time.  Excited for him starting this new part of his life and being able to attend the wedding and see family we don't see all that often.  Nervous because I'm doing photos for them.  I'll be one of two photographers that day.  Please pray that the rain in the forecast stays away!

I haven't been to a wedding in just about 11 years!  It was my brother's and I photographed his also to save them some money.  That was when I was still using a film camera!

It got me thinking about weddings I've been to. I really haven't been to all that many weddings in my lifetime.  Not sure if that's a good or bad thing!  Kinda makes me feel like I have no friends!

I've stood up in three weddings.

The first is my aunt's in October of 1977.

Then it wasn't until 1990 that I got another chance!  I stood up in my cousin's wedding, the one I'm pictured with above!  I'm pretty sure I have a photo of just the two of us...I can picture it in my head.  But I'm not sure where it is and I don't have the time to look for it right now so you'll have to settle for this one.

In case you are wondering......yes, I do have a banana clip in my hair!!

And last was my BFF at the time in October 1993.  I can't find one of just her and I either so you get me and hubby!  Nice glasses!

I was rummaging through a box to find a couple pics and realized I still have that dang bow from my hair!  I stood up with one of the groom's friends who I could not stand and who couldn't stand me.  I've always wondered about that and if they put us together on purpose because of that or if they truely had no clue that we didn't like each other.  I was afraid to ask her at the time because I didn't want to upset her while planning the wedding or even shortly after....making her think she made a mistake.  Now I'd really like to know.    Unfortunately we don't really keep in contact anymore :(

Then of course, hubby and I on our wedding day...

So what about you all?  Have you been to many weddings, stood up in any?  Care to share embarassing photos of yourself like I just did?

I won't be around much the next few weeks because of the wedding and spending time with family but I do eventually plan to share some pics.  If not here then on my photoblog.

Table Topics Tuesday: Who's Hungry?

Photobucket

if you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Are you kidding me?

PIZZA!

I know, nothing special or fancy but I love me some pizza.  Pepperoni and Black Olives.  I tried to come up with something else but really if I had to choose this would be it.

Now this is all under the assumption that I would never get sick of eating the same thing over and over, not gain weight eating all those carbs and of course never get heartburn or indegestion from all that pepperoni!

Welcome to Wisconsin!

I'd like to welcome everyone who is stopping by from Blogtrotting today!  I live in the city of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.  (pronounced oh-CON-oh-moe-wok)

Originally settled by the Potawatomi Indians who called it Coo-No-Mo-Wauk which means where the waters meet.

We've lived here for 10 years now.  We built a house and moved in in March of 2000 and we love it here.
It's got that small town feel.

But since it's half way between Milwaukee and the capital city of Madison it's close enough to city living and all types of concerts, festivals, shows, museums and one of our favorite places the Milwaukee County Zoo

Travel in any direction and you're sure to run into either one of the many surrounding lakes

Or some type of farm!

In fact our neighborhood is almost surrounded by corn throughout the summer months!

Interesting claim to fame:

"The Wizard of Oz"  premiered on August 12, 1939 at the Strand Theatre here in Oconomowoc.  It was shown 3 days later at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood where it was attended by most of the cast and crew.
The summer of 2009 was the 70th anniversary of the film.  The main street through downtown was closed and the movie was shown on a 40 foot inflatable screen to celebrate the occasion.

Hello and welcome to my little corner of the blog world!  As you can probably gather from the title, this blog is all about me and my life.  My family, likes, dislikes, travels, activities and whatever else I come up with.

I've been married to my best friend for going on 19 years.  We are hoping to skip off to Vegas for a few days for our big 2-0 in June of 2011!!

We have two beautiful daughters.
Skowt is 14 and loves tennis, track and band.  She plays the clarinet and tenor saxophone.

Tiger is 10 and loves cheerleading and swimming.  She is also in band and plays the clarinet.

I love spending time with them as a family.

The Life of a Teen

My poor kid.  She's usually such a laid back girl.  Pretty happy, doesn't get upset much.  But lately things have been getting her down.  She asked me the other night..."Mom, what's wrong with me?"  If that doesn't pull at your heart strings I don't know what will.  She rattled off the following list:

I've got eye problems (she wears glasses)
I've got mouth problems (braces, and currently wears appliances to fix overbite)
I've got grade problems (was upset about a bad test grade in biology)
I've got pancreas problems (she's diabetic)
I've got skin problems (had some breakouts, got some medicated cream from doctor now skin is red and irritated)

I wish I could make it all go away!  Luckily she hasn't listed boy problems yet!  Those can wait.

Now she's leaving for a week long trip with the school band.  I'm really gonna miss her :(

A night at the Movies: Remember Me

Warning for those who have not seen the movie: This post contains some spoilers.  I tried not to be too specific but it will still spoil the ending to a point.

I don't get to see many movies in the theater.  For a few reasons...time issues, cost issues and finding someone to go with.  Either no one wants to see the same movie or we just can't work out the timing.  I am not one to go by myself.  So many times I just wait until they hit DVD and add them to the Netflix cue and who know how long before I actually get to see it!

But once in a while there's a movie that I try to make a point of going to see right away because there is just something about it that makes me not want to wait.  Remember Me was one of those movies.  I'd been waiting to see it since I found out about it and had hoped to go opening weekend but that didn't work out.  I finally got the chance this past Saturday night.  A friend and I went down to the casino for a couple hours and when we decided we had lost enough money we thought we'd go see it.

I wanted to go because......well OK, mainly for this man right here....

*sigh*

I know he's a little on the young side for me but I try not to think about that!  Seeing him as Edward Cullen got me hooked and I really wanted to see what else he could do.  I was not disappointed!  My friend kept saying she saw Edward in Tyler (his character in RM) in the previews.  And she mentioned it a few time during the movie.  I admit yeah, there were some things that were the same but I don't think it's as much Edward as it is just Rob.

My thoughts.....I don't care how great an actor you are, there are just some habits or mannerisms you have that are just part of who you are and no matter what role you are playing those are going to peak through a bit.

Anyway, like I said I was not disappointed.  I really like it and so did my friend!  I think Rob and Emilie had great chemistry and did a wonderful job.  I also loved the roommate.  One thing that really struck me funny was his use of the word matriculate!  I had never heard it until it was used by Edward in the Twilight movie......and here it is again in another Rob Pattinson movie!

I had an idea of what the movie was about or at least how it ended.  I had read a few comments online but tried to stop before I read exactly what happened.  But putting two and two together I was able to figure it out.  I was concerned that I wouldn't like it because of the outcome and wondered how they would recreate it on screen.

They didn't try to recreate anything.  They left it all to your imagination....or recollection of what happened and I think that worked.  It's definately a sad and emotional ending.  It's left me an emotional wreck and weepy for days.  Putting "faces" to the events.....though fictional....and making you think about your own life and how you live it, how you treat those closest to you.
What you would do if you lost someone important in you life unexpectedly.  Would it take losing someone to make you realize what you've got?
