Project Smile {January}

I'm playing along with Alicia today for her project smile.
She's been doing this for a bit and it's been something I wanted to join in on but like many things in my life it gets pushed aside for whatever reason.  But I think it's time for me to start noticing and appreciating the things that make me smile rather than always focusing on the things that don't.

The past month has been a great one for my husband and I as a couple.  We've spent some needed quality time together, we've talked a lot and we've really reconnected.  We've become closer and more open with each other than we've ever been.  It's been a good thing for me.

This past week we've actually had two date nights.  Yes, two in one week!  Now that the kids are getting older it's much easier to get out together.

Last Sunday they both slept over at friends houses since there was no school on Monday so we used up our Chili's gift card and part of our Marcus Movie theater gift card that we got for Christmas.  We ended up getting to the theater pretty early so we snapped this photo  while sitting in the car.

We saw "The Dilemma" with Kevin James and Vince Vaughn.  I love Kevin, Vince? Eh, I can take him or leave him.  The movie was pretty good though.  We both liked it. And I didn't realize until the movie started that Channing Tatum was also in it!  Yum.....

Another reason to smile. (shhh....don't tell hubby) I was trying to decide between shirtless and tuxedo.  While he looked hot in the tuxedo, shirtless ultimately won out.

You're welcome.

Then on Saturday we had tickets to see Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood from the "Whose Line Is It Anyway" show.  We love going to see them.  This was like our 4th year in a row and it doesn't get old.  It's all improv so even though they play some of the same games each year it's always different.  So we snapped another photo that night.

I don't know how many we took and deleted because I hated how I looked!  People must have thought we were nuts!  Looks pretty similar to the other though doesn't it.  Oh well.

Would you Rather.........?

So I bought a book called Zobmondo: The Outrageous Book of Bizarre Choices Would you Rather.......?

It's a listing of 404 sets of 2 options to choose which you'd rather endure.  It was an impulse buy standing in line at the book store.  My kids and I picked it up to flip through and thought they were interesting.  It was marked down so I bought it thinking I'd use it for topics to discuss here since at the time I needed some blog ideas.  That was probably 6 months ago.  I brought it home and it's been sitting in my bedroom ever since.

Well, guess what?  As usual I'm still looking for blog ideas.  I don't know why it's so hard for me to come up with things to talk about.  I love blogging.  I love reading others blogs.  I'm always amazed at the variety of topics out there on the blogs I read.  Yet still I feel like I've got nothing.

So periodically I may throw one in the blog mix.  I know I will never get through all 400+, not to mention the fact that some are just so disgusting I won't even consider posting them here!!

Here we go.  We'll start with an easy one.

Would you rather.......

Wear a motorcycle helmet to bed every night

OR

Always sleep with shoes and jeans on?

I go for the shoes and jeans.  That I think would be easier to handle.  I could not stand the helmet on my head while sleeping that's for sure.  I need me a nice soft pillow to lay my head!

So what about you?  Leave your answer in the comments or leave me a link where you've blogged it.

Monster Trucks

On Saturday we went to the 2011 Monster Jam in Milwaukee.  We heard about it the week prior and they were having a deal on tickets so we decided to do something different.  Hubby and I had gone to one before we were married but the kids had never been.  They weren't too thrilled or sure what to expect but they ended up enjoying it.

Before it started you were able to walk down on the floor and check out all the trucks up close and meet the drivers.

Hanging out during the intermission.

The donut competition.  That was cool.

They also had a portion of the show that featured Freestyles Quads, BMX, motocross and superbikes that was amazing to watch.  They turned the lights down for that part so I wasn't able to get any decent photos.

Remember This?

Jiffy Pop!

I was under the assumption that if you were a child of the 70's this is what you ate when it came time for popcorn.

I guess I was wrong.  Until New Year's Eve 2010, my husband, 41 years old had never had Jiffy Pop.  Tragic, I know!

He came home from the store that afternoon with a package of saying he'd walked by it and just had to buy it because he'd never had it growing up and wanted to finally try it.

So I popped it for him that night.  I wasn't nearly as good as I remember.  I'd say at least half of it didn't even pop.  Hubby was not impressed.  But hey, as a kid in the 70's it was cool!  We didn't have microwave popcorn we had Jiffy Pop.

He ended up putting all the unpopped ones in some oil and popping them.  And of course, I being the bad blogger that I am didn't even photograph the festivities to show off here.

Bring It On

Happy New Year!!

What's that you say?  I'm 3 days late?  Ya, I know.  Story of my life.  But to tell you the truth I was in absolutely no mood to be wishing people a happy new year on either New Years Eve or New Years Day.

The few days prior were not so great for me emotionally.  Most all of it completely my own doing.  My mind seems to be my own worst enemy.  I worry about things that haven't happened yet, I create all kinds of awful scenarios in my head, I'm the ultimate Negative Nelly. And it ultimately ruins my day or days at a time.  Don't see me blogging for days or weeks at a time......this is probably why!

But after a couple long, serious talks with my husband I'm feeling much better.  Many times when I do this to myself we end up fighting because he gets so frustrated with the way I think.  This time he is finally trying to listen to what I have to say.

We have hopefully come up with some ways to turns things around. I want to make this a fun and more carefree year for me.  I want to stop worrying about things that haven't happened yet or things I can't control, stop being so concerned about what others think, stop being so uptight about everything, stop procrastinating, stop letting my own insecurities prevent me from doing things I want to do.  And most of all stop beating myself up for all.  And with the help, encouragement and little nudging from my husband I'm ready to make it work.

So 2011, I'm ready.

Bring it on!!
